The Subcommittee on Prevention of Torture and other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (SPT) published new advice to state parties to OPCAT and National Preventative Mechanisms regarding the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
Among its recommendations were to prioritise those deprived of their liberty in national vaccination programmes, to improve quarantine areas in places of deprivation of liberty, and to ensure the protection of people with COVID-19 inside of care homes and psychiatric units.
